You must have heard of it, but do you really know much about the Google Android? This is a world class mobile operating system that runs on the Linux kernel. Google began working with Android back in 2005, and the world of business began buzzing with talk of how a giant of Google’s size is going to enter the mobile market. Speculations began on what it was going to do to change the way the mobile market worked and what new contribution Google was going to make to the mobile world. In 2007, talk about Google launching a handset of its own began circulating, and sure enough, by December 2008, the Google Android was launched officially, and vendors were free to start selling with an Apache license.
You can store an enormous amount of data in your Google Android phone. The SQLite software is used for purposes of storing data.
The Android supports a lot of connectivity technologies including the GSM, EDGE, CDMA, EV-DO, UMTS, Wi-Fi, AND Bluetooth.
Its is perhaps superfluous to mention that you can receive, send and store messages, both in SMS and MMS format, for unlimited periods on the Android.
Threaded SMS messaging is supported too.
The Android offers the open source WebKit application format (the WebKit is a layout engine designed so web browsers can render any web page of their choice; it can be made adaptable to many platforms other than the Android). You can script Java software on an Android phone. It comes ready with a compiler.
What do users have to say about the Google Android operating system? If you use Android on a T- mobile, you can access most of Google’s online services right from your phone. This includes Gmail, and other services like Google search, image search, Orkut and Blogger. If you area regular user of a number of Google services, all you have to do is enter and then store your email address and password to get going within seconds.
The Android is works best when it is connected with a G1 mobile phone. You can make changes to tools like your calendar or contacts on your phone or on your computer at home or work, and the other will be updated immediately.
Since Google is the name that built the Android, no wonder the web browsing service is one of a kind. Large pages are loaded in a matter of seconds and are zoomed in to fit on the tiny G1 screen. The Google Android browser being remarkably fast, don’t be surprised if you catch yourself surfing away to glory even when you are on the move.
You also get Google maps on Android, but this part could have been executed better. You get all the facilities, but the satellite image quality is less than satisfactory. Surprisingly, although you can play music on any Android supported phone through a memory card, you can’t watch videos. Even the camera, which is fantastic for taking still shots, won’t record video. Also, there is no file browser.
Small reason to complain once you have seen all that does, rather than what it doesn’t.
The HTC Touch Pro 2 has hit the market and is making waves. The Nokia N97 finally has competition. This is one phone which looks just as cool as it is functional. From the outside, it looks all silvery with accents of darker, bold colors. Up the front, there is shiny strip for a border. Incidentally, the battery cover itself makes up the back of the phone. This part is made of inexpensive plastic in a silver finish. The battery cover is way too sensitive and could come loose with the slightest manhandling. But the super stylish look of the front more than makes up for whatever faults you can find with the back.
